The First Lesson

Preparing for your child’s first swimming lesson

Very young children can often find it difficult to separate from their parents. After all they are experiencing a new pool, a new teacher and a new program. All these things take time to absorb. It may take them three lessons to feel comfortable about coming. As a parent you can help them by bringing them to the swim school to watch before they start. We also welcome your help by you staying very close to them on the side of the pool and encourage them with praise and clapping.

Things you need to bring.

All children need swimmers and towel. A swim cap is compulsory to be worn during the lesson. Goggles are necessary during the lesson. If your child is an under 5 beginner, wait for teacher to advise you when to start using goggles. Infants and children Under 3 years of age who are not toilet trained must wear a swim nappy with tight fitting legs straps. Infants should not have a full belly of food before entering the water.

All other swim equipment is provided by the Swim School

Monitoring your child’s progress

Progress is measured in small steps. These small steps are recorded by the teacher and each child has a progress chart. Once a level is complete, your child will graduate from the level and move to the next level. The Swim school owner/manager, Narelle, is happy to help with any questions about progress.
